September 27, 2018 Question: Does AB 1871: Charter Schools: Free and Reduced-Price Meals apply to Nonclassroom-based Charter Schools?

Answer: Charter schools must provide one nutritionally adequate meal a day to eligible students. However, a nonclassroom-based charter school must only provide a meal for eligible students on any school day that the pupil is scheduled for educational activities on-site, lasting more than two hours. If there is no facility component to the educational activity, or if a student is not scheduled to be on site, the nonclassroom-based charter school would not be required to provide a meal.
