August 24, 2018 Question: What kind of infectious tuberculosis (TB) testing is required of charter school staff and volunteers?

Answer: California law requires that school staff working with students be free of infectious tuberculosis (TB). AB 1667: Tuberculosis Testing in Schools mandates that school employees or volunteers with "frequent or prolonged contact with pupils" who have no identified TB risk factors complete a TB risk assessment, when they begin employment or volunteering. Based on the results of that TB risk assessment, if staff or volunteers are determined to be at risk, they must then take a TB test.
