Grant Opportunity to support Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
March 27, 2017 As a result of recommendations in the 2015 Statewide Special Education Task Force report, funds in the amount of $18 million dollars have been appropriated as part of Assembly Bill 104, Chapter 13, Statutes of 2015, for scaling up of the utilization of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in Local Education Agencies (LEAs) across California. In April 2016, Orange County Department of Education, in partnership with Butte County Office of Education and SWIFT Education Center, was awarded a large grant to implement MTSS statewide. This effort, California Scale-Up MTSS Statewide (SUMS), provides a process for LEAs to assess their strengths, coordinate supports to their Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAP), and align their MTSS efforts with the eight state priorities.
The Orange County Office of Education is accepting applications for sub-grants aligned with MTSS to support LEAs statewide to implement academic and behavioral supports in alignment with their local mission and vision. The grants are designed to support tiered instruction, as well as provide access to extensive training held statewide. There will be 3 rounds of grants, with the first application period closing March 31, 2017.
