Opportunity to Shape the Next Generation of Special Education Teacher Preparation

July 25, 2016 The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has determined that all teachers need to be better prepared to teach students with disabilities. To this end, the Commission is seeking applications for individuals to serve as part of a work group to determine what knowledge, skills, and abilities are to be included in the preliminary portion of an Education Specialist educator preparation program and to suggest possible changes to the education specialist credential structure.

There will be four two-day meetings over the course of the next school year that members of the work group will be required to attend, beginning in October. CTC will pay all necessary travel costs and lodging expenses for work group members to attend the meetings, which will take place in Sacramento.

To apply, an individual must be a PK-12 educator or administrator, a student with an IEP, or a parent of a student with an IEP. Please find more information about this work group, including tentative meeting dates, application criteria, and a link to the electronic application, here.

Applications are due by September 7 at 5:00pm. CCSA encourages any interested charter school educator, student, or parent to apply--this is your chance to shape the next generation of special education teachers in California!
