CCSA Answers: Mandated Reporter Training and Charter Schools

May 7, 2016 Question: Is mandated reporter training for child abuse required for charter school employees?

Answer: Assembly Bill 1432 requires all local educational agencies (LEAs) to annually train all school employees, both teachers and non-teachers, on what they need to know in order to identify and report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. The training may take place via an online training module or in person. In addition to, or in lieu of the online training module, charter schools may provide their own trainings, which many schools do during summer professional development. These trainings are often led by County or District personnel. Schools that choose to do a training in lieu of the online training module must complete a Form for LEAs Who Use Alternative Training For Mandatory Reporting available here.
