August 10, 2015 The SB 740 Facility Grant Program administered by the California School Finance Authority (CSFA) is one of the most useful facility grants for charter schools in the state. The program has allowed more than 300 charter schools each year to receive funding that covers a significant amount of their facilities costs for a leased building. In July of 2015, the law creating the program was amended as part of the state budget and those changes have expanded eligibility allowing more charter schools to access these vital funds.

Click here for more information on the eligibility changes.

Key Changes:

  • The program now allows for schools that serve a population with 55 percent or more free and reduced price meal (FRPM) students to be eligible for this program.
  • This change includes schools geographically located in the attendance area of a public elementary school in which 55 percent or more of pupils qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
  • The state budget added an additional $20M to the program, bringing the total funding available from $92M to $112M.

There is still time to apply for the 2015-16 school year. For new schools or schools that are changing facilities for the 2015-16 school year, the application is due by October 15, 2015. For information on how to apply, visit the grant page.
