Question: What is the process for a charter school to change its name?
Answer: According to the Charter Schools Division of the California Department of Education (CDE), in order to make all parties involved notified of changes, the CDE employs the OPUS (Online Public Update for Schools) web application. This application provides notification of a name change to the charter authorizer, the CDE's Public School Directory and the Charter Locator. When a charter school changes its name, it should follow this link (http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/sd/) to provide the school's updated information to OPUS. OPUS will then update this information on the charter school's record In the California Public School Directory.
