Free Resource for Eye Exams and Glasses for Students
September 23, 2014 Vision To Learn (VTL) is a non-profit organization that provides free eye exams and glasses to children in low-income communities throughout California through a mobile optometric clinic that comes to your school. Research has found that 15% of California students lack the glasses they need to see the board or to read a text book and 95% of California 1st graders who need glasses do not have them.
Founded in 2012, VTL's mission is to partner with schools and community organizations to address a lack of access to needed vision care for elementary aged children and raise awareness. The solution is simple - we bring the clinic and glasses to the children. Since its inception, VTL has expanded from one mobile clinic to three operating throughout California and in that time have visited over 200 schools, helped screen more than 100,000 children, examined over 18,000 and provided free glasses to more than 14,000.
This year we will be working throughout the Bay Area and would like to provide our services to charter schools in this area, especially those that serve communities of need. For more information please visit Vision to Learn or contact Linda Harper via email or at (310) 893-2303.
