Capitol Update 9/11/14

The Governator was back this week for the first time since leaving Sacramento. Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger attended and spoke at a conference on climate change and later in the day made a trip over to the California State Capitol building to unveil his official Governor’s portrait. The portrait will be hung on the third floor of the building, next to the portraits of the four most recent Governors: Gray Davis, Pete Wilson, George Deukmejian, and Jerry Brown.

Governor Brown has not yet taken action on any of the bills we are following on his desk. The Governor has until September 30 to sign or veto each bill before him. Don’t forget to fill out our action alerts to send Governor Brown letters of support for AB 948 (Olsen), our sponsored facilities bill, and letters of opposition for AB 913 (Chau), our opposed legislation on conflict of interest, and SB 1263 (Pavley), our opposed legislation on charter school locations.
New Charter School Facilities Open in San Diego!
Albert Einstein Academies (AEA) and Thrive Charter School in San Diego both celebrated the opening of two new facilities. Located in the Grant Hill neighborhood, the new AEA Charter Middle School's restored site hosted a ribbon cutting, guest speakers, tours and music for families, community and charter leaders. Albert Einstein Academies (AEA), the first authorized charter public schools with a K-8 International Baccalaureate continuum in San Diego, educates children to contribute as active thinkers in the world.
Nicole Temple Assisi, principal and founder of Thrive Charter School welcomed students to its new school and facility located in the College Area bordering with City Heights. Thrive offers, Project Based Learning, State of the Art Technology, Tinkering and Robotics, Small Class Size, Personalized Learning, Integrated Arts, Engaging Electives and Before and After School Care.
