Capitol Update 7/31/14
July 31, 2014
This week Governor Brown went to Mexico on a three day trade mission that ended on Wednesday. During the mission, the Governor signed agreements with Mexico on trade, investment, and climate change and discussed the immigration crisis. The Governor’s entourage was roughly 100 individuals including Assemblymembers, Senators, members of the Administration, and top business executives.
With the trade mission concluded and Summer recess coming to a close, the Legislature will reconvene for its final month of session starting next week. There are two legislative deadlines remaining: the August 15 fiscal committee deadline by which all bills have to be out of committee on the floor and the last day of session on August 31 by which all bills have to be sent to the Governor.
AB 948 (Olsen) Action Alert
We need your help TODAY to pass AB 948, critical charter school legislation!
In two weeks, a key vote is taking place that will decide whether Assembly Bill 948 (Olsen) related to the SB 740 Charter School Facilities Grant program will move forward in the legislative process.
The changes proposed in AB 948 will allow more charter schools that serve low income students to be eligible for the SB 740 program using existing funds. In effect, AB 948 will allow schools to spend more money IN the classroom and not ON the classroom. Learn more at our AB 948 Web page.
Write Senate Appropriations Chairman Kevin de Leόn TODAY and urge him to pass AB 948 off of the Suspense File. We need to demonstrate the importance AB 948 and the strength of the charter school movement.
Because our movement is made up of many voices, we have created a variety of letters for you to choose from. Feel free to edit and personalize the letter. Please click on the link below that best describes you:
