CCSA Answers: Class Size Reduction Requirements for Charter Schools under the LCFF

Question: Now that Class Size Reduction (CSR) funds have been rolled into the Local Control Funding Formula, must charter schools maintain small class sizes or have a plan to make them smaller?

Answer: Charter schools receive the K-3 grade span adjustments but do not need to make progress toward meeting the 24:1 student to teacher ratio. Unlike the earlier restricted Class Size Reduction categorical program, this funding is based on ADA and the grade level. The 24:1 requirements in the Education Code only reference school districts. Charter schools are exempt from those requirements under our Mega Waiver.
