January 21, 2014 January and February offer four valuable opportunities for charter leaders in the Central San Joaquin Valley

Charter Best Practices Training
On January 28, the California Department of Education will host the Charter Schools Best Practices Project and Broker of Expertise Training in Fresno at the Fresno County Office of Education from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This training will provide charter school authorizers, school site administrators and classroom teachers with resources to: assist in planning and starting charter schools, evaluate charter petitions, develop partnerships with other schools and local districts, and support teaching practices to increase student achievement.

Brown Bag Forum: Charter Resources, Issues, and Policy Forum
On February 6, charter leaders will join their peers at the Brown Bag Forum: Charter Resources, Issues, and Policy Forum The forum will be held at the Smittcamp Alumni House at CSU, Fresno and will cover: facilities needs assessments; and vendor, resource, and service-sharing opportunities. CCSA and FCMAT Finance Academy
February 18 kicks off a collaborative effort between CCSA and the Fiscal Crisis and Management Team (FCMAT). CCSA's ever-popular annual Finance Academy has been expanded into three all-day sessions and includes presentations from FCMAT's fiscal experts. This on site workshop assists charter schools that want to strengthen their internal fiscal management capacity, and is designed for charter school board members, school leaders or new staff and developers of schools opening in 2014. Workshops will be held in two parts (morning and afternoon), with Part 1 focusing on: Budget Development, Cash Flow & Funding Sources. Part 2 will offer: Data Management & Reporting Participants will receive expert guidance in regard to: Local Control Funding Formula ' (LCFF), funding sources and budget development and managing cash flow; also offering CALPADs and student data systems as well as where to go for help and timelines. CCSA Lunch & Learn: Facility Funding Opportunities
Finally, on February 27 we will be hosting a one-hour lunch session on the Facility Funding Opportunities, presented by staff from RBC Capital Markets. This session complements the facilities discussion introduced during the Brown Bag Forum on February 6 and will offer guidance on: building your school's credit, securing financing, and acquiring facilities.
