External Opportunity: January 17 deadline to refer foster youth to free college program
January 2, 2014 College Sponsorship is a free program for former/current foster youth in their senior year of high school who plan to attend a four-year university. It includes a $15,000 five-year financial commitment to 30-50 Los Angeles County graduating seniors and up to five transfer students each year. Students are able to use the financial support to fund crucial needs like rent, tuition, supplies, and transportation. College Sponsorship also provides the guidance and regular contact of a UFC staff member throughout the students' college experience, assistance in securing internships, and support in post-graduate planning.
Fill out a quick referral application form for the college-bound foster youth you know. Upon receiving a referral, UFC will follow up directly with youth. 70% of UFC College Sponsorship students graduate from college, while only 13% of foster youth attend college and less than 1% graduate.
The deadline to apply is January 17, 2014. Learn more about United Friends of the Children or call Carolina Diaz at 213-975-1406 with questions.
