January 6, 2014

As many charter schools are coming back from their winter breaks, there is another body that is also returning from its recess.

The Legislature is Back in Session

The 2013-14 California Legislative Session resumes today from its interim recess. Both the Assembly and the Senate will meet to restart the legislative and budget process. The process will move quickly in Sacramento over the next couple of weeks. Legislators will bring their two-year bills back to life that were introduced in the first year and many new bills will be introduced until the bill introduction deadline on February 21.

On Friday, January 10, the governor will release his 2014-15 budget proposal. CCSA will issue a Capitol Update with budget highlights, followed later by an in-depth Budget Brief. CCSA will monitor all actions of the legislature and keep you updated through our weekly Capitol Updates.

Have you already sent your legislators a welcome letter with a request to visit your school? If not, do not forget to use CCSA’s Action Alert center to automatically send a customizable letter to the legislator that represents you.

CCSA now has 1,130 charter public schools and 519,000 students, and we want every elected official to hear from the charter school leaders in their communities as they get ready to tackle the tough challenges they will face this year in Sacramento. Make your voice heard today!
