CCSA Answers: Cell Phone Usage by Charter School Students
September 3, 2013
Question: What rights does a charter school have to specify student cell phone usage during the school day?
Answer: There are no state statues or regulations regarding student cell phone usage in charter schools. There are an increasing number of schools (private, traditional public schools and public charter schools) that use cell phones and other electronic devices as a component in classroom instruction. There is an expectation on the part of many parents to have their children use cell phones as an important safety and home communication device. Charter schools should consider all factors when including cell phone usage in their student handbook, with guidelines and limitations.
