Featured Grant: Public Charter Schools Grant Program

August 16, 2013 Funding for providing public school choice to students, especially to those who are attending chronically low-performing traditional public schools.

The Charter Schools Division of the CDE manages the PCSG Program. Peer evaluators review the grants and awards are given on a competitive basis to local educational agencies and nonprofit organizations that are likely to develop and open high-quality charter schools. Preferences are given to schools that serve students whose home attendance area contains a traditional public school that is in Program Improvement (PI), years 3, 4 or 5 and has an Academic Performance Index (API) state decile rank of 1 or 2.

The recipient amount is up to $575,000.

Focuses on opening charter schools that will provide public school choice to students whose assigned traditional public school has been identified for Program Improvement (PI), corrective action, or restructuring under Title 1, Part A of NCLB

Eligibility: The applicant must be approved at the local level before submitting an application. An SBE number is not required to be funded.
