June 14, 2013 Sacramento City Charter Leaders (SCCL) is a leadership group for autonomous charter schools that are authorized by Sacramento City Unified School District. The group began meeting informally in 2010 to address issues with district special education services. Last year, they established a more formal structure by adopting bylaws and electing leaders.

Dennis Mah, from the Urban Charter Schools Collective was the founding leader of the group, which aims to coordinate advocacy amongst leaders on common issues. This year they focused on improving the annual renewal process for charter schools. Next year, Jim Scheible from St. HOPE Public Schools will lead the group. The group plans to focus on aligning the annual oversight process with charter renewal and improving transparency with district contracts and services.

CCSA attended a recent SCCL meeting at the Language Academy of Sacramento, and caught up with some of the members of the group. The video highlights their view on the value of collaboration amongst charter leaders within a district, with the shared goal of increasing student achievement.
