Special Education 101
May 7, 2013
10:00 am - noon
Led by Kate Dove

The flexible and innovative nature of charter schools makes them uniquely situated to provide individualized supports to students with special needs. For this reason, families are increasingly turning to charter schools for quality special education options. To provide quality and compliant special education services to all students, charter school operators and educators must be familiar with federal and state policies affecting these children in the education setting.

This workshop begins with an introduction to the statutory framework affecting special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. It will then explore key concepts in special education, and provide tips and resources for providing quality services to students with disabilities.
