Question: Can a charter school calculate a student incarcerated at a juvenile detention center into its Average Daily Attendance (ADA)?

Answer: Charter schools cannot claim ADA if a student is enrolled at a detention center, even through Independent Study. This is because the center already receives the ADA for the student. One student can only generate one ADA on any instructional day, with the exception of students enrolled in regional occupation or adult high school continuation programs.
