January 10, 2013 I hope you had a restful and rejuvenating break. With a new year comes new opportunities to work together to address challenges charter schools face in Northeastern California, and to improve public education as a whole.

There are lots of exciting things to look forward to:

  • January 30: Sacramento County Charter Leaders will meet to discuss collaborating on improving services to the most vulnerable youth - students with special needs and foster kids - with support from the Stuart Foundation.
  • February 6: Forest Ranch Charter School will be hosting the Region 2 Charter Leaders Meeting. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with leaders and tour this unique charter school.
  • February 7: The Region 3 Charter Leaders Meeting is moving to Sacramento Charter High School - a school that gets a lot of headlines. If you haven't been their recently, you've got to come and see the great things they're doing in Oak Park.
  • March 11-14: I hope you're planning to join us in San Diego for the 20th Annual Charter Schools Conference and Anniversary Celebration. Do not miss this chance to fly south for the end of winter, meet with charter leaders from around the state, and celebrate Northern California charter luminaries. Remember to join us for the regional reception.
  • May 8: The first week in May is National Charter Schools Week. It's also the high season for state legislation and budget advocacy. Save the date for Advocacy Day 2013, where charter leaders storm the state capitol building to fight for funding equity and push back on anti-charter legislation.
