October 3, 2012 Please join us in welcoming Roy Cervantes to CCSA! Roy has taken on the role of Los Angeles Regional Director and will work very closely with all charter schools authorized by LAUSD. Roy comes to CCSA with a strong background in education policy analysis as well as program development and evaluation. His most recent work has been with the City of San Jose's Office of the City Auditor where he worked directly with the Mayor and City Council to provide independent and objective analysis of various departments and programs to help the city become more efficient and effective.

As a Policy Consultant for Jobs for the Future, Roy developed policy findings on how to reinvent alternative education at the state level including examples of how state policy could best support struggling students and former dropouts. Prior to this, Roy worked with the New York City Department of Education where he developed and implemented educational models for over-age and under-credited high school students in collaboration with schools and local non-profit organizations. While attending the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Roy was part of a doctoral research group that documented community organizing in education in East San Jose where parents mobilized to force the district to provide "great schools" for their neighborhoods which eventually led to the development of some of the city's first and most successful public charter schools.

Roy's passion for education reform and his work experience align with the mission and vision of the California Charter Schools Association and we are thrilled to have him on our team. Roy will work on all LAUSD authorizing issues including school growth, charter renewals, Prop 39 and charter policy. Roy can be reached at rcervantes@ccsa.org and (213) 244-1446, ext. 207.
