September 13, 2012 Groundbreaking changes are taking place in Los Angeles charter schools in the area of special education. New special education arrangements will be implemented for all charter schools authorized by Los Angeles Unified during the 2013-14 school year. All charter schools will be required to select from one of the new special education arrangements - Option 1, Option 2, or Option 3 - and executive a new special education MOU in the spring of 2013.

To make an informed decision about your new special education arrangements, all charter schools are strongly encouraged to attend the Los Angeles Area Charter Leaders Meeting on October 2 at 10 a.m.

At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to hear a detailed presentation on the new options, receive information on the timeline for implementation, and receive guidance in evaluating the best option for your school. You will also have the opportunity to hear about exciting special education collaborations between the district and charter school community and learn how these collaborations can benefit your students.
