Transitions for CCSA Oakland Regional Director

April 20, 2012 It is with mixed feelings that we announce today that Kate Nicol will be leaving CCSA on May 18. Kate will be moving into a leadership position in the charter community as Executive Director/Interim Head of School for Partners in Oakland Education, the non-profit organization which runs Vincent Academy, an elementary charter school in West Oakland. Kate led the efforts to form the organization and was the lead petitioner for the charter. She is hoping to firmly establish the school as it enters its second year and continue to strengthen relationships with other community organizations in West Oakland.

Kate will be sorely missed at CCSA. During her tenure, Kate worked tirelessly on behalf of the schools and children in Oakland Unified. She successfully launched the Oakland Collaborative, a group of Oakland charter leaders to join together around common issues. In her two years as Regional Director, she has helped to build cohesion in the Oakland charter community and helped advocate in regard to Prop. 39 facilities issues, special education and new charter growth.

CCSA will move to fill the position as soon as possible. Elaine Guarnieri-Nunn, Bay Area Managing Regional Director, will be overseeing all Oakland and Alameda County charter activities until the position is filled. Elaine can be reached at
