Aspire Public Schools Making their Presence Known in the North Valley

April 13, 2012 I am a strong advocate of seeking a good balance of diverse selections of school choices serving families in the Central Valley with organic independent charters as well as charter management organizations who run multiple schools.

Aspire Public Schools operate 34 public charter schools serving 12,000 students in kindergarten through high school, mostly in underserved communities. They operate three charters in the Modesto area: K-5 schools Aspire Summit Charter Academy on Hatch Road and Aspire University Charter School on Coffee Road, and Aspire Vanguard College Preparatory Academy in Empire which serves middle & high school students.

Aspire is being recognized as being one of the top performing charter school organizations in the nation by a report from the Mathematica Policy Research & the Center on Reinventing Public Education at the University of Washington, Bothell.

Aspire was recognized primarily for its teacher coaching practices found to have a strong, positive impact on middle school student achievement. According to the report, Aspire teachers are observed multiple times each week by their principals as well as by a coach or master teacher & peers. Aspire instructors are expected to follow a clear sequence when teaching by giving students very specific directions, recognize kids doing the task and consequences for those not following directions.

We all know what a challenge it can be to provide effective instruction that get through to students. Congratulations Aspire Public Schools! Read more in the Modesto Bee
