Your First Look at 2012 Conference Highlights
March 2, 2012
A Special Message from Jed Wallace
On Thursday we wrapped up the 19th Annual California Charter Schools Conference, and I wanted to take a minute to thank those of you who attended for your energy and engagement through the sessions, and for your participation in the Charter School Funding Equity Rally at the Capitol. Seeing 1,500 charter school supporters on the lawn of the Capitol, I was struck by the power of our movement, as were the legislators (including Governor Jerry Brown, who spoke at the rally) and policymakers in attendance.
As always, one of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to recognize the people behind the movement with our Hart Vision Awards. Look for detailed profiles in next week's California Charter Advocate, but in the meantime, please take a minute to watch the videos honoring this year's award recipients:
- Volunteer of the Year - Erika Higgins Ross, WISH Charter
- Teacher of the Year - Kelly Sullivan Perez, San Jacinto Valley Academy
- Leader of the Year - Dr. David Patterson, Rocklin Academy
- School of the Year - Gabriella Charter School, Los Angeles
- School of the Year - St. HOPE Public School 7, Sacramento
The theme of this year's conference was "YOU are the charter school movement." And what a year it has been, as this short video presented at conference shows.
Whether you were there to see these videos debut in person, or are watching them now for the first time, I am sure you will agree with me that with quality volunteers, teachers, leaders and schools like these, the movement has never been stronger.
