Fresno County Office of Education Recognized as Authorizer of the Year

March 15, 2012 I've not had a chance to highlight in our Weekly Member Digest the Fresno County Office of Education (FCOE) who was recognized as this year's Hart Vision Brian Bennet Authorizer of the Year Award recipient at our recent 19th Annual Charter Schools Conference.

FCOE's approach to authorizing and support of charters is marked by its uniquely common way of treating charter public schools as equals partners in serving the students of Fresno County. County Superintendent Larry Powell consistently remarks that all students in Fresno county are his to care for, and he will use the best resources available in providing that care, including supporting high-quality charter schools. Under his leadership and others at FCOE, such as Dr. Michele Copher, Jamie Perry and Donna Ellis, and many others, local charter schools and leaders are consistently provided with the same high quality of service afforded to every district and every public school in the county. We thank them for their service to our community.
