Question: Does a charter school name change constitute a material revision to the charter school's petition?

Answer: No. The Education Code is silent on this issue. We advise charter schools to designate which sections of their charter petitions are considered "material". According to the Charter Schools Division of the CDE, there are no problems with changing a school's name in their CDE databases. It may take a few months, however. A name change also does not change the charter school's CDS code or the charter school number.
