February 16, 2012 We are pleased to announce that Elaine Guarnieri-Nunn has joined the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) as the new Managing Regional Director for the San Francisco Bay Area region, which includes all of northwestern California. In her role as Managing Regional Director and a member of the Regional Advocacy team, Elaine oversees intensive work in the greater Bay Area, such as the Oakland Charter School Collaborative and the San Jose Charter School Consortium, in addition to broader member relations and advocacy work across the whole of the region. Her priorities will include funding and facilities issues for charter schools, ensuring flexibility and autonomy through the charter petitioning and renewal processes, and continued development of healthy charter authorizing environments throughout the region, including clear standards of academic accountability.

Elaine has extensive experience in public education, including charter school work, and also higher education, as a long-time educator, administrator, and program director. She comes to us most recently from the Encorps Teachers Program where she was the Bay Area Regional Director for Northern California. Prior to this, Elaine worked at Leadership Public Schools in the Bay Area as lead instructor in government and economics. Elaine also worked at Johns Hopkins University and Goucher College in both faculty and administrator roles. Elaine has a BA from Northwestern University and an MS from Teachers College at Columbia University.

Elaine is excited about working with all of you on the key issues facing our members in northwestern California and can be reached at eguarnieri@ccsa.org or 415-902-8222.
