Local Charter School Authorized in Mariposa County

January 6, 2012 Congratulations to the Sierra Foothill Charter School (SFCS) for being authorized by the Mariposa County Unified School District (MCUSD). The SFCS charter effort had received close to 40 letters of support from various Mariposa County government officials, a large number of Mariposa County organizations, UC Merced Deans and Directors, other college and UC representatives, conservation and education organizations and community members.

Read a Mariposa Gazette article on the authorization of the school.

A couple of interesting points on this school is that if they were denied by the Mariposa County Unified School District, they would have only one appeal option to the State Board of Education ... there is no county office of education just MCUSD. And lastly, SFCS submitted a Prop 39 application for the use of the site but brokered a deal with the district in lieu of the Prop 39 application process.
