January 26, 2012 If anyone needs tips on how to involve your community in the charter movement, talk to Classical Academies.

They sent off 730 letters to Governor Brown thanking him for his support and highlighting specific budget ideas that their community supports such as; equalizing the budget for all charters, allowing independent study programs access to funding for facilities costs and updating laws around independent study programs and budget expenditures. They also took time to brag a bit about their program to the governor highlighting things such as all their schools score mid 800's on the API, are WASC accredited, hold Exemplary Recognition and have a Distinguished School in their family of schools.

Classical Academies regularly sends out legislative updates to their parents and encourages them to voice their opinion to their local legislators and they do!

KIPP Adelente took advantage of the week to have an event at their school in which they invited the parents and community members out to celebrate National School Choice Week. The event was meant to inspire current KIPP, prospective parents and community and inform them about the importance of school choice in the San Diego region.

Dignitaries invited were Congressman Filner and City Councilman Young. Congressman Filner talked about the need for the city to support all kids especially before and after school, while Mr. Williams spoke on behalf of Council Member Young and tried to inspire the students to keep up the hard work. I was honored to be asked to speak and talked about the importance of choice for families to meet individual student needs and congratulated the KIPP Adelente Community on all their hard work. It was great event with well over 100 families in attendance.
