Welcome Back to a New School Year
September 9, 2011 Welcome back to a new school year. Certainly off to a hot start!! There is lots you need to put on your calendars in the next few weeks:
Regional Meetings will be the end of September and beginning of Oct. Our legislative team will be joining us to let us know how we fared in last year's legislative season and get ideas from you on the upcoming one. We will also talk about special ed. and our progress with our local JPAs, have some Prop. 39 reminders and tips about renewals. Great networking opportunity so I hope to see everyone there! You can register online here.
- San Diego meeting is September 28, from 9-12 at one of our new charters, America's Finest (4001 El Cajon Blvd., 92105)
- North County is October 6, from 9-12 at Guajome Park
- Orange County is October 7, from 9-12 at El Rancho
San Diego County Office of Education is hosting curriculum and instruction, C&I meetings, specifically for charter schools. The first meeting is Wednesday, October 5 from 1-3, in Annex C. This is a great meeting for a curriculum folks. If you are lucky enough to have a curriculum lead at your school or a lead teacher, this would be a great meeting for them to get information and share ideas. The meetings focus on best practice sharing and SDCOE resources and at this first meeting SIATech will be sharing technology tools. Members of the SDCOE staff will also be sharing technology tools with us and Raquel Tellez will be giving us more information on the Common Core Standards. There will be five meetings this year, all on Wednesdays from 1-3. Each meeting will have a different curricular focus. Hope you each school can send a representative.
Don't forget your local legislators as you plan your beginning of the year events. They appreciate opportunities to visit schools and speak to parents. Now is a great opportunity to get them out to your school and brag about your successes. Growth in API scores, students accepted to colleges, or increased enrollment are all good reasons to reach out to your legislators and let them know the great work charters are doing in their communities. Press releases and invitations to visit are called for. Let me know if you need any assistance with contacting your legislators or getting out invitations or press releases.
