New Bay Area Special Education Joint Powers Authority

September 1, 2011 An enthusiastic and strong team of charter leaders recently met and decided to develop a Special Ed JPA with CCSA support. They are busy designing a unique JPA structure with a goal to help Bay Area schools like theirs better serve all students with special needs.

It is important for all schools to be proactive about building their capacity to serve students with a wide range of special needs. A JPA offers a formal structure for charters, as public agencies, to work together and can provide cost-effective mechanisms for jointly purchasing services and insurance and sharing risks and liabilities, among other things.

In order to pursue this as an option, Bay Area schools are asked to complete a survey that will help the design team understand the needs throughout the Bay Area. All schools must first give permission through Docusign for information to be shared with CCSA.
