Follow Up from Recent Regional Meeting: Legislative Visits, PowerPoint, and more

September 30, 2011 Thank you to those of you that attended this most recent regional meeting. In Chico, we had an interactive meeting that focused on catching up with each other, authorizer overreach, and budget concerns. In Sacramento we also talked about new schools, accountability, and legislation. Special thanks to Four Winds School (Chico), and Fortune School of Education (Sacramento) for hosting!

Those of you that attended the meeting may know that we spent quite a bit of time collecting member input on what CCSA should prioritize in the upcoming legislative season. If you have further thoughts, please feel free to pass them along!

One of the most critical things that we can do at the regional level to bolster our position in Sacramento is to foster relationships with your legislative representatives at their district. This can be done with simple "get to know you" meetings in district offices, led by school leaders or school representatives - like board members or parents.

I am currently in the midst of arranging a meeting with Senator Steinberg and Assemblymember Dickenson. If you would like to take part in these or other meetings, let me know so that I can help out with logistics. If you are unsure who your representatives are or would like more information about what you can do to get to know your legislators, see this fact sheet.

If you were unable to attend the meeting or would like to reference the presentation that we used, I have included it for your convenience.

Save-the-date for our next round of meetings: Thursday, January 26, in Sacramento, and Wednesday, February 1 in Redding. See you there!

Laura Kerr,
Regional Director
