Did you know? OUSD Board Watch

  • Print

August 26, 2011 When the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Board approved the new strategic plan this past May, public concern was expressed (see pg. 2, #4) that the District had conspicuously neglected to consider the relationship between the charter sector and the District in the context of the plan, despite the fact that a significant percentage (17%+) of Oakland's public school population attends charter schools.

Fast-forward to the denial of three quality charter petitions in the space of the last few months by OUSD, a lot of anti-charter rhetoric, and the perception that charter schools are steep competition. And the latest...now there is suddenly mention of the development of a new charter policy!
