Moving Forward on District-Charter Compacts in Santa Clara County

July 30, 2011 Charter and district leaders in four school districts and the Santa Clara COE are making significant progress on developing Quality Schools District-Charter Compacts (supported by Gates Foundation).

The purpose of a Compact is to increase student achievement by strengthening the charter-district relationship, dispelling myths, developing high quality schools for all kids and holding schools accountable. Parent leaders in San Jose see the importance of cultivating a common vision and are meeting with district board members and charter leaders to advocate for bold and actionable Compacts.

Besides the SCCOE, the districts who have committed to developing Compacts represent over 82,000 students! They are: East Side Union High School District, Franklin McKinley School District, Alum Rock Union Elementary School District, and San Jose Unified School District.
