Here are three items I'd like to share with you this week:

San Bernardino City Unified Appoints new Charter School Director

On Wednesday, July 6th, we met with Edwin Gomez, the newly appointed Charter School Director for San Bernardino. It was a very open and productive conversation that I believe helped Mr. Gomez understand CCSA's views on effective charter school authorization, oversight, and accountability. I believe that Mr. Gomez's appointment will prove to be very beneficial for the district and the charter schools within SBCUSD. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Gomez to his new role as he will soon be touring each of the charters schools within San Bernardino.

St. Anthony's Catholic School in San Bernardino closes, parents search for alternatives.

Parents and teachers learned of the closure Tuesday after teachers were summoned to an emergency meeting at the Diocese of San Bernardino Pastoral Center. The diocese works with the school and 29 others in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. At the meeting attended by the Superintendent of Schools Patricia Vesely and other administrators, the staff learned the school would not reopen for the 2011-12 school year. San Bernardino Unified School District supports Trustees of Public Safety Academy

The San Bernardino City Unified School District is supporting a request for a court order that, if granted, would essentially rescind an action taken on May 26 to dissolve the Public Safety Academy's board of trustees. In a 6-page declaration filed this morning in San Bernardino Superior Court, Harold Vollkommer, an assistant superintendent with the school district, said he supports a preliminary injunction against Public Safety Academy, Inc., the nonprofit whose corporate board of directors on May 26 voted to dissolve the school's board of trustees.
