MEDIA ADVISORY

Hundreds of Democratic Party Parents and Voters Rally in Support of Charter Schools at California Democratic Party Convention

Great public education can't wait: Rally to draw attention to shared progressive values and goals.

Who: Hundreds of registered Democratic charter public school parents, students, alumni and teachers, along with community activists and education advocates from across the state. Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) and charter public school leader and education advocate Margaret Fortune, President and CEO, Fortune School will also participate.

What: Charter public school families and supporters from across California are traveling to San Diego to participate in a march and rally to raise awareness among Democratic Party delegates, candidates and elected officials on how our state's charter public schools are aligned with the Party's progressive goals and focus on social justice.

Concerned over recent efforts to diminish the positive impact of California's charter public schools, the march and rally will highlight the significant effect California's charter public schools have on students most in need across the state. Following the rally, charter school families and supporters will share their charter school experiences with convention attendees.

The charter school community is ready to collaborate to build a better California by embracing schools that are committed to closing the achievement gap, protecting our most vulnerable and delivering the best education for students.
