One of the Top Students in the World: El Sol Alumni Aces AP Exam!

Noeli Zarate isn't just at the top of her class; she's on top of the world, having earned a perfect score on the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam last year. This distinction is so rare that Noeli is 1 of 55 students in the world to earn every point possible during this testing period. Furthermore, out of approximately 4.5 million AP Exams taken by 2.5 million U.S. public high schools in 2015, she is 1 in 322 students to earn every point possible, a rare accomplishment.

Noeli attended El Sol from K through 8th grade and is currently a senior at Santa Ana High School. She is taking AP Spanish Literature at Santa Ana High School and advanced math. With 4.6 GPA, Noeli will be graduating as class salutatorian.

"We are so excited for Noeli! At El Sol, we work to provide a strong academic foundation in both English and Spanish," said El Sol Executive Director Monique Daviss. "Our focus on the arts and sciences, academics and enrichment, allow for students like Noeli to blossom. Her achievements are astounding and we are so proud of her."

Noeli is a 'Dreamer' who has earned multiple scholarships will attend UCI as a campus wide scholar studying engineering. What pushes Noeli to excel? She says, "I am inspired by a quote from Jorge Luis Borges: So plant your own gardens and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers."

El Sol is an award-winning charter school that designs its own curriculum, provides professional development for its teachers, facilitates parental involvement, and offers a number of programs to ensure its students success. El Sol uses a unique dual-immersion curriculum that teaches students to read, write and speak academic English and Spanish. It also runs a robust extended day program that offers supplemental academic instruction for struggling students and cultural enrichment activities in the areas of music, dance, sports, and math.
