September 2015 CEO Message
September 29, 2015
Today is an exciting day as we launch the Truth About Charters public awareness campaign, complete with sharable key messages, videos and infographics. I encourage you to spread the Truth About Charters and help separate fact from fiction about California's charter public schools. I also invite you and your school communities to share your Charter Voices and amplify the success of our schools. Send your video stories to email@example.com. And be sure to join us on social media as we actively promote both campaigns over the next several weeks.
There is no doubt, charter schools get great results for kids. According to new assessment data released by the California Department of Education (CDE) earlier this month, charter schools performed better than the state averages on Math and English Language Arts while serving a diverse population of students. These trends reaffirm independent research showing charter schools are performing well with historically underserved students, and improving over time.
Charter schools across the state are shining examples of academic success. Recently selected for the Bright Spot Award, a national recognition given by The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy is helping close the achievement gap for Hispanic students in one of the most populated and underserved regions of Los Angeles.
We know that with over 1,100 charter schools in California, there are countless teachers and volunteers doing amazing work for their students and communities. We want to hear their stories! Nominate an amazing teacher or volunteer from your school community to receive a 2016 Hart Vision Award at the 23rd Annual CCSA Conference taking place March 14-17, 2016 in Long Beach. The deadline to submit nominations is October 9.
Together we will build broader awareness and support for our great schools.

P.S. AB 787 (Hernandez) moves to Governor Jerry Brown for a decision. CCSA strongly believes this bill is overly vague and could lead to costly lawsuits for charter schools. Please take one minute to complete our Action Alert urging Governor Brown to Veto AB 787.
