March 2014 Message to Members from Jed Wallace
March 17, 2014
I was excited and privileged to see so many of you, nearly 3,000 to be exact, at the 21st Annual California Charter Schools Conference March 3-6 in San Jose. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated and brought this year's theme "Achievement Through Innovation" to life by fully engaging with each other during four days of exceptional programs and special events.
The list of thank you's is impressive from our keynote speakers Reed Hastings and Lisa Leslie who roused the audience with their passion about the importance of a quality education for all students to presenters of the 160+ informative breakout sessions and workshops, the poster sessions at the three instructive expos, and to the three deep dive programming tracks on common core, technology, and leadership.
We also honored and presented seven Hart Vision Awards to volunteers, schools, teachers, leaders, elected officials, and community leaders. Five students graduating from CCSA member charter schools from across the state were also recognized and will each receive a $2,000 Susan Steelman Bragato Scholarship Award.
Not to mention all the networking to strategize on how to keep the momentum going as we collectively take the charter movement in California to its next level of success in 2014. Again, thank you for being instrumental in creating a high energy, informative, and engaging conference.
If you missed the event or want to relive some key moments, please visit our conference highlights webpage where you can watch videos of the keynote speakers as well as the Hart Vision Award winners.
And remember to mark your calendar for next year's 22nd Annual Conference, "One Movement, Many Voices," to be held March 16-19, 2015 in Sacramento.
And now as we return to our schools and communities, we turn our attention to a very busy legislative season with the many bills we are tracking and our plans for Advocacy Day on May 7 at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Please register and join us this year as we have a number of critical advocacy and legislative priorities to share with legislators and welcome your continued support to make this a successful legislative session for charter schools.
