Doctoral Scholarship Opportunity for Charter School Leaders
William Howard University is accepting applications for the annual Roger J. Duthoy Scholarship. This 17th Annual award is valued in excess of $15,000.00 and will include all tuition and related fees in the school’s nationally-accredited, independent study Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with a concentration in Charter School Administration Program.
Prop 39 Applicants: Did the District Provide a Final Offer of Facilities?
Under Prop. 39 regulations, school districts are required to make final offers of facilities to eligible charter schools by April 1. Charter schools must respond to these preliminary offers by May 1, or 30 days after the final offer whichever is later. Read on for additional information and template response letters.

New California School Dashboards from CDE now available for Schools to Preview!
In March the California Department of Education (CDE) will publicly release a new California School Dashboard. The Dashboard will color-code ratings on a number of indicators that the State Board of Education recently approved as part of its new accountability system (formerly known as LCFF Evaluation Rubrics). These dashboards are currently available for preview for schools, using a login provided by the CDE.

STAR Test Coordinator Forms Due Sept. 13
Charter school administrators must annually determine if the charter school will conduct state testing programs dependently (testing with the school’s authorizing agency) or independently (testing separately from its authorizing agency). If your school is testing independently, you must submit these forms.
Keeping Your Special Education Options Open- June 30 Deadline
Schools must submit a letter of intent to exit their SELPA by June 30 in order to maintain the option of exploring LEA status for special education or negotiating alternative special education arrangements for the 2014-2015 school year. Environmental Charter High School Nominated for Green Ribbon School Award
ECHS in Lawndale is one of just four California schools nominated for the Inaugural Green Ribbon Awards, out of 49 applicants. Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced the honor at a press conference at the school earlier this week.
Changes in LACOE's STRS Reporting Deadline Cause Pain for Many Charters
Beginning February 1, LACOE moved its STRS reporting deadline up by ten days, drastically reducing the amount of time charter operators and back office providers have to process and submit payments for STRS submissions. CCSA is working to see if this deadline could be extended.

Highlights From the 3rd Annual Charter Parent Summit
Sacramento was the perfect location for this year’s Annual Charter School Parent Summit as parents connected with each other and their elected officials and learned ways to continue to advocate and organize in their communities. About 150 parents attended this year’s Summit, representing schools from Los Angeles to Oakland to Sacramento.
