CCSA Answers: Changes to English Language Assessments during the 2017-18 School Year
August 28, 2017 Question: What changes are coming to English Language Assessments during the 2017-18 school year?
Answer: The California English Language Development Test (CELDT) is being administered for initial identification purposes only during 2017-18, with a testing window of July 1 through June 30 for the Initial Assessment. However, the CELDT will no longer be administered as the Summative Assessment with a deadline of October 31st, as in previous years. The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) will be operational during 2017-18 and will be administered as the Summative Assessment. This ELPAC testing window will be open from February 1 through May 31, 2018.
Those charter schools who have agreed to participate in the ELPAC field test will administer both the CELDT Initial Assessment and the ELPAC Initial Assessment. For these charter schools, only the CELDT scores will be used to determine if a student is English proficient or is an English learner.
