Charter Movement 20th Anniversary Kickoff

August 22, 2012 CCSA officially launched the 20th Anniversary of the charter school movement at a news conference at San Carlos Learning Center Charter School, the oldest operating charter school in the U.S. The event took place August 21. Speakers included:

  • Jed Wallace, President and CEO, CCSA
  • Former Assemblymember Ted Lempert, President, Children NOW; author of charter school expansion law
  • Dr. Don Shalvey, Deputy Director, Education, Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation, CCSA Board Member
  • Diane Tavenner, CEO and Founder, Summit Public Schools, CCSA Board Chair
  • Beth Hunkapiller, Vice-President, San Carlos School District Board
  • Chris Mahoney, Director, San Carlos Learning Center
  • Founding parents, teachers and students

The kickoff was the first in a series of year-long events planned to celebrate this milestone. Butte County Charter Schools will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the charter school movement at the Chico Children's Fair on October 13 - 14, at the Silver Dollar Fairground in Chico.
