It's no wonder that Amy Blumberg James is drawn to the rapid pace of legislative affairs. A runner who has completed two marathons, Amy is no stranger to the energy and endurance that being an effective legislative director requires. She joins the California Charter Schools Association team as the Director, Legislative Affairs after serving as a lobbyist for Rose & Kindel for the past seven years.

"I have always been interested in education and, now, I'm thrilled to focus all of my efforts on education policy," she said.

Her professional motivation is coupled with a personal passion for education and the promise of the charter school movement. She points to her nephew's recent experience with a charter school that met his learning needs - and she watched him flourish. Amy comes from a family of educators; in fact, three generations of educators. She notes that that her grandparents were social justice advocates and made sure that college was not even a second thought for her when they opened a college-savings plan on the day she was born.

From testifying at policy hearings, drafting policy language, and advocating for clients, Amy's extensive legislative affairs experience positions her well to advance the work of CCSA and the broader charter schools movement in California. She hopes that her many years of building relationships in the legislature will help open the minds of elected officials and policymakers.

"It is my personal hope to help policymakers embrace all the positives that the charter school movement brings," Amy said.
