PG&E Solar Suitcase

Funding is available for equipment to cultivate student interest in clean energy and, in particular, engage girls and Latinos who are typically underrepresented in STEM fields. The project provides an opportunity to complete a hands-on humanitarian environmental sustainability project and to compete for a chance to embark upon an environmental leadership trip.

Deadline: May 24, 2017

Eligibility: All applicants must teach students in grades 8 - 12 in a school-based program or youth-serving organization that receives utility services from PG & E. School or district administrator must co-sign the application and agree to the teacher taking up to 12 days for travel to deliver the suitcases.

Award Amount: All expenses paid for two days of professional development for teachers; classroom set of suitcases that can serve as emergency communications and energy devices in the event of a natural disaster; all expenses paid for one teacher and two students to deliver the solar suitcases to an energy-scarce region and up to $8,000 in equipment
