Multiple Choice: Charter Performance in 16 States
CREDO, June 2009
This study looks at charter performance across 16 states, and includes a look at the effectiveness of charter schools, which varies by state. Nationally, charter students in elementary and middle school have significantly higher rates of learning than students in non-charters, but students in charter high schools and multi-level schools have significantly worse results. Additionally, 17% of charter schools provide superior education opportunities for their students; 46% have results that are no different from the local traditional public schools, and 37% deliver results that are significantly worse than local traditional public schools.
